Sawtelle Peak

Sawtelle Peak rising above the forests of Island Park

Mountain Island Park

Sawtelle Peak is the big mountain you see from almost everywhere in Island Park. A graded dirt road climbs high on the mountain for sweeping views across three states and down into the Island Park basin.

The road is usually fine for ordinary cars in summer, though a few exposed stretches can be uncomfortable for anyone afraid of heights, and bad weather can make four-wheel drive worthwhile. Snow often lingers into July. In winter the area is popular with snowmobilers.
